Installing a Certificate on the Client (Android)

Deploying certificates to Android devices cannot be automated, but there are a few manual ways to do it that are relatively easy.

* To install certificates from an SD card
1. Take the SD card out of the Android device and insert it into your computer, or connect your Android device to your computer using a USB cable.
2. Create a folder named download at the root of the SD card and copy the certificate file(s) you want to install from your computer to the SD card folder.
3. With the SD card in your Android device, go to Settings > Security > Credential Storage, and then tap Install from device storage.

The Certificate Installer looks in the folder named download on the SD card for certificates to install. Certificate files should have the extension .pfx or .p12 (PKCS #12 format). Once you add the security certificate it is deleted from your SD card.

4. To verify that a root certificate is installed, go to Settings > Security > Trusted Credentials and see if it is listed.
* To install certificates over a USB cable
1. Connect your Android device to your computer using a USB cable; the device should appear as an external drive on the computer.
2. Copy your certificate file(s) to the internal storage for the Android device, and then disconnect your Android device from your computer.
3. Go to Settings > Security > Credential Storage, and then tap Install from storage.
4. Tap the certificate you want to install.
5. Enter a name for the certificate and then tap OK.
6. Enter your Android device PIN or password when prompted. The certificate will be installed and the file will disappear from the list of certificates available to install.
